My name is Li Xiaochi, who is a sophomore student from class Education. As you can see, the person who is smiling on this picture is me. I grew up in a tourism city called Tai’an, which is famous for Mount Tai. Even though my hometown is not as prosperous as other metropolis, it still brings me a lot of fun. For example, the air in myhometown is always fresh, which makes me feel good. And, sometimes my fathermay force me to climb mountain with him, which I suppose is one of the reasons why I grew up healthily and rarely get ill. And as a person who grew up at the foot of Mount Tai, I think I have the responsibility to tell you that never come to climb Mount Tai during short-term holidays, otherwise you are unlikely to see thescenery like this, because at that time you will be one of the persons in this picture and all you can see and experience are bustling streets and huge crowds of people. So never do that, believe me.
Well, back to the main topic, to be honest, when I heard that I was about to go to Beijing for study, I realized that this may gonna be a totally new stage for me. I still remember how excited I was when I just stepped into the university. And at that time, I determined to go through every day with enough passion and enthusiasm.
Frankly speaking, at the beginning of my first year in college, I was confused with the study here. Because, you know, the learning methods which used to be very useful in senior high school were out of operation now. So, I what I did was just taking every class seriously, which signified that I attended every class on time, took notes in classes and completed mostassignment left by teachers (and review the knowledge I ‘ve learned regularly). And after doing like this for about a semester, I got 6.5 the first time I took IELTS test, which made me extremely excited. And eventhough there is a certain gap between this grade and my ideal grade, it still gives me a lot of confidence. Besides, I also got special grade scholarship at the end of my first years in college, which let merecognise that most things and dreams can be achieved by hard working. After I have entered the second year in college, I still keep this view, and study hard at the first term of the sophomore year. And whenever I am trapped in trouble or face some challenges, I just talk to myselfthat work harder and struggle for yourself. Because only you and your performance can determine your final grade.
I mentioned beforethat college is a new stage for me, the reason why I think so not only because it gives me opportunities to get further study, but also because it offers aplatform for me to develop my comprehensive abilities and this is also the reason why I am standing here now.
What my teacher said on his class left me a deep impression. He said that people must try toget out of the comfort zone if he or she would like to make progress. It doesn’t mean that you need to have a good command of things that you are not good at, but to become less uncomfortable the next time you are doing this kind of things. Actually, I used to be introverted insenior high school, and would somehow feel uncomfortable when talking in front of a lot of people. So, when I realized this point, I believed it was time to make the change. As a result, last year I took part in the Student Union, during which process I think my ability is somehow improved, for example, I can cooperate with my classmate and organise activitiesin our school, and now I can also talk in front of a lot of people without feeling uncomfortable, although the sense of nervous cannot be avoided. Additionally, I also took part in a variety kind ofactivities that I am interested in, such as being the student representatives to (have a welcome speech) on orientation ceremony.
During this process, I think my teachers and classmates has helped me a lot. My teachersalways encourage me to participate in a variety of activities actively, whichare all valuable chances for me, at the same time, my classmates always give me enough supports to face these challenges.
In a word, thanks to my courage, endeavour, and the help of people around me, I have already taken the first step to be better, who is willing to stand at the stage and talk in front of people. And I think in the following years in university, I will continue to study hard, get out of my comfort zone and try my best to become the person who I really want to be.
